III EDITION 9/16 FILM FEST. VERTICAL FILM FESTIVAL
Next Saturday, the third edition of the 9/16 Film Fest Caja Rural de Salamanca will be held.
Salamanca City Council will collaborate with the event by organizing and sponsoring the debate panel “Is the future vertical?”. La Aldehuela hosts the 9/16 Film Fest edition for the third time. More than 70 works have been submitted to the Festival, of which 24 have been nominated, a figure that confirms the growth of the competition and the interest this format generates among creators from Spain and other countries such as France, Colombia, Italy, Mexico, Argentina, or Chile.
The official categories of this edition are Fiction, Micro-documentary, Animation, Videominute, Video Art, and Ability, the latter promoted together with Fundación Aviva to highlight works related to disability, both in front of and behind the camera. Additionally, there are the 9/16 Award for Best Vertical Cinematography and the Most Viral Award, which will recognize the short film with the greatest impact on the festival's official social networks.
The day will begin at 7:00 PM with a program designed to turn Isla del Soto into a grand celebration of vertical cinema. The public can enjoy a photocall, Sweet Market, food trucks, a bar, raffles, and music by Ramón Vicente DJ.
At 8:00 PM, there will be a live performance by The Paddy’s Project, a folk/Celtic group from Salamanca.
At 9:00 PM, Salamanca City Council, in collaboration with Salamanca Film Commission, sponsors and organizes the round table “Is the future vertical?”, a meeting to reflect on new audiovisual narratives, the impact of the mobile format, and the evolution of cinema towards new languages. The table will be moderated by Óscar Pérez, a filmmaker, screenwriter, and producer from Salamanca, and will feature the participation of Beatrice Harrods, a director specializing in digital narratives and experimental cinema; Marcodimio, a content creator who combines cinematic language and the characteristic rhythm of social networks; Marina Baeza, an actress known for her role in 4 estrellas and protagonist of vertical series such as Una novia por Navidad and Una novia por vacaciones; and Pedro Estepa Menéndez, a screenwriter, film director, and member of the Spanish Film Academy.
At 10:00 PM, the Awards Gala will begin, presented by vertical content creator and podcaster Celia Castle, featuring the screening of the nominated short films on the 24 m² vertical screen, the announcement of the winners, the awards ceremony, and the resolution of the Most Viral Award, chosen based on the views obtained by the short films on the festival's official social media, @9.16filmfest. The gala will also include an intervention by Fundación Aviva and a special performance by Cristina Len.
The day will conclude from 12:00 AM onwards with an after-party and a DJ set by Ramón Vicente DJ.
A festival that democratizes audiovisual creation
The 9/16 Film Fest Caja Rural de Salamanca maintains its philosophy intact: to democratize audiovisual creation and open cinema to new talents, regardless of their technical resources. The festival does not solely seek vertical videos, but rather cinematographic productions that use this framing as a unique narrative tool, connected with the audiovisual consumption habits of new generations.
Since its inception, the competition has argued that the vertical format is not a limitation, but an opportunity to explore new ways of storytelling. From fiction short films to micro-documentaries, from animation to video art, the 9/16 Film Fest invites creators, students, filmmakers, and communicators to experiment with a language that is already part of the audiovisual present.
