VII Short Film Festival for Seniors FICMA
The councillors for the Elderly and for Family and Equal Opportunities, Isabel Macías and Ana Suárez, respectively, highlight the importance of this intergenerational competition to make the image of the elderly visible and to break down stereotypes so deeply rooted in society.
Eight works have been selected from among the participants, and will be screened on June 8 and 10 at the CMI Julián Sánchez ‘El Charro’ and the Congress Palace, respectively.
This film festival, which was born in 2016 with FAMASA, will present the honorary award to the popular television actress María Galiana at the final gala on June 18, at the Congress Palace.
The Salamanca City Council collaborates once again with the International Short Film Festival for Seniors (FICMA), which will be held from June 8 to 18 in the capital of Salamanca, with a total of 411 works submitted from 26 countries, of which eight have been selected and will be screened on June 8 and 10.
The councillors for the Elderly and for Family and Equal Opportunities, Isabel Macías and Ana Suárez, respectively, have presented this seventh edition, alongside the president of the Federation of Senior Citizens' Associations of Salamanca (FAMASA), Francisco Gómez, highlighting the importance of this intergenerational event to make visible and bring closer to young people the reality of the elderly, and to raise awareness to put an end to such deeply ingrained stereotypes that prevent us from moving forward.
In this context, Suárez noted that active aging is one of the City Council's strategic policies, encompassing measures related to health, personal autonomy, entertainment, training, and protection.
Salamanca is committed to the social participation of this generational group, and therefore is part of the Network of Age-Friendly Cities, promoted by the World Health Organization.
For her part, Macías referred to the collaboration agreement that the City Council maintains with FAMASA, a close and consolidated collaboration in the neighborhoods that materializes in numerous social, cultural, and training programs and initiatives, which register high participation.
In this context, she highlighted the importance of the federation, which brings together more than 11,800 members, by collaborating with the City Council in detecting common problems of the elderly and thus proposing solutions to them.
FICMA was born in 2016 with FAMASA and, over the years, has carved out a niche in the city's film programming, becoming a forum for debate to bring citizens closer to the reality faced by seniors in the current situation and to put an end to clichés they fight against in their daily lives.
In this edition, the festival jury will award the honorary prize to actress María Galiana, popularly known for her performance in the series 'Cuéntame'. It will be at the final gala, on June 18, at 7 p.m., at the Congress Palace, where awards for best fiction, best documentary, and the audience's special prize will also be presented.
