The VII Salamanca Short Film Festival goes to the streets
The Festival will take place over a month and a half with public and free screenings in the Oeste neighborhood of Salamanca.
Next Thursday, May 28, the seventh edition of the Salamanca Short Film Festival kicks off, an event organized since 2007 and featuring the collaboration of the Salamanca City Council, through its audiovisual promotion office Salamanca Film Commission; the ZOES Neighborhood Association and the sponsorship and collaboration of Mahou, Coca Cola (Nordic Mist), and Coworking ÁrtyCo.
The Festival will take place over a month and a half with public and free screenings in the Oeste neighborhood of Salamanca, on Calle Granero, except for the awards ceremony which will be held on July 9 in Plaza del Oeste itself. The screening dates, which will begin at 10:00 PM (22:00 hours), are Thursdays May 28, June 4, 18, and 25, and July 2 and 9.
The festival opened the short film submission period last February 11 and concluded on March 26, 2015. During this time, the organization received 541 short films sent from all over Spain and many other countries worldwide. Among the 541 shorts, 30 short films have been selected as finalists for the competition, some of them winners or with a presence at important international festivals like the latest Cannes Film Festival, as well as by filmmakers with great prestige in the world of cinema.
An Official Jury, composed of seven professionals related to the film industry and audiovisual education, will deliberate among the 30 finalist short films for the Jury Award (which consists of a cash prize of 550 euros). Attendees of the screenings will be able to vote for the short films they consider best for the Audience Award (of 200 euros).
The Festival jury is composed of: Miguel Ángel Refoyo (Short Film Director), Enrique Cantabrana (Head of Salamanca Film Commission), José Antonio Pérez Bowie (Professor at the University of Salamanca and director of the literature and film studies group: Gelyc), Beatriz Miguel (Communication Graduate and festival organizational staff), José Luis Díez (Cinephile and avid follower of the Festival), Carlos Lobato (Co-organizer of the festival) and Javier Díez (Audiovisual Producer, image professor and festival director).
