Seven stories centered around spirituality converge in La Alberca, an emblematic enclave in the Sierra de Francia mountain range. Death in this area is treated as magical, maintaining the tradition of the daily procession for the souls so that the dead can rest in peace.

The film intertwines the lives and deaths of peculiar characters. A forester who tenaciously cares for the mountains and their wild goats. A lonely sawmill worker who is in love with an impossible love. A young widow who rebuilds her life in a small village. A curious elderly couple who love each other in a very particular way. The soul of a sausage factory that wanders its corridors at night. Two brothers who reunite after years of not speaking. Little angels who roam the cobbled streets. The lords of the black cloaks. The soul maidens and all their spirits. All of this told 'between two lights', that magical moment when the day has not yet ended, but the night has not yet begun.

The Salamanca-born director Gabriel Velázquez has been appointed a member of the European Film Academy. This is his eighth film since Sud Express premiered at the San Sebastián Festival, back in 2005. All his works have been awarded prizes at prestigious international festivals such as San Sebastián, Berlin, or Rotterdam, and have subsequently been released on television and in cinemas in Spain and France.

A film by Gabriel Velázquez.
