Chavela

Chavela Vargas will transport us to a magical world. A universe full of truths, loves, and sorrows, where passion and freedom unite in a song to life. María Isabel Anita Carmen de Jesús Vargas Lizano returns home after a long tour, her last. Her friend 'La Pelona' comes to pick her up in three days, and Chavela sways between the edge of this world and the other.

From time to time, she forgets who she is, but a red thread takes her far away; to those places 'where she loved life,' to a limbo of memories that visit her before her departure. There, an old woman awaits death, a wounded child commands within a woman, and a myth becomes eternal. The characters appear and vanish in a theatrical staging imbued with magical realism. Each night, we will channel 'The Myth,' who will sing to us and take us to that dreamlike world. Chavela will teach us to look at ourselves in her free and resounding mirror, living, dying, and becoming eternal. That's why Chavela Vargas is much more than all that. Chavela is all of us, and we are all Chavela.
