This era of mobile phones and artificial intelligence tends to foster in many people a spirit of superiority that prevents them from accepting and understanding how minuscule the difference is that separates us from our classics. In this sense, the situations presented by Cervantes in his interlude The Altarpiece of Wonders continue to occur today, even multiplying with even more extreme and grotesque versions.

The great expansion of written, visual, and auditory media of our time provides the most effective platform for rogues, charlatans, and scoundrels of all kinds and conditions to roam freely, camouflaged as societal gurus. From the key positions they occupy in politics, finance, and culture, they can sell us altarpieces of nothingness at the cost of people's fear of being seen as fools or fascists.

This adaptation, in the purest Joglars style, of Cervantes' interlude focuses on social manipulation and the fear of disagreeing with the majority opinion, a topic more relevant than ever in our digital age.

Company: Els Joglars. Author: Miguel de Cervantes. Direction: Albert Boadella. Adaptation: Albert Boadella and Ramón Fontserè. Performers: Ramón Fontserè, Pilar Sáenz, Dolors Tuneu, Bruno López-Linares, Pep Muñoz, Rafa Blanca, and Javi Villena.
