The School of Salamanca on its V Centenary, by José Antonio López Nevot
1 hour
Thursday, November 26, 2026. Liceo Theatre (Sala de la Palabra). 8:00 p.m. Free admission until full capacity. Approximate duration: 1 hr. Conference.
José Antonio López Nevot, Professor of History of Law and Institutions at the University of Granada and president of the Granada Academy of Belles Lettres, offers the conference 'The School of Salamanca in its V Centenary'.
The Granada-born López Nevot was also declared the winner of the latest edition (2025) of the Ciudad de Salamanca Novel Prize, organized by the City Council, with the work Leonor y los Virreyes. The historical novel is set in the Spanish Baroque, written with a perfect recreation of the language of the period, without a single anachronism, in which three successive protagonists are presented to us, although related to each other, corresponding to the three scenarios in which the action of the work unfolds: Andalusia, Italy, and Mexico.
His professional work branches into different lines of research: the history of political-administrative institutions; the history of private law and, especially, the history of family patrimonial law; the history of legal thought; and the history of justice and, in particular, the study of procedural practice. He is the principal investigator of the Justice and Government in the History of Spanish and European Law Group (SEJ-463). He is also a full member of the Illustrious Andalusian Society of Historical-Legal Studies and the Center for Historical Studies of Granada and its Kingdom, and a member of International Relations for the UNESCO Center of Andalusia. López Nevot has been a visiting professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Messina, at the Faculty of Law of the University of Regensburg, and at the Faculty of Law of the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (both in Germany).
Organized by: Fundación Instituto Castellano y Leonés de la Lengua.
