Remigio González Martín ‘Adares’

1 minute
Around noon, the poet Remigio González, alias Adares (1923-2001), who was a friend of the sculptor Agustín Casillas, would set up his portable stall near the Plaza Mayor on the steps of El Corrillo. They saw each other almost daily when the poet walked up San Justo street and Agustín left his home. And they talked about the world and the Spain they lived in. Adares published more than thirty poetry collections, among which the poetic anthology “I dare to be word (1977-1996)” stands out. "Adares" died suddenly in Salamanca at the age of 77. His remains rest in Anaya de Alba. In December 2017, the City Council dedicated this posthumous work by Agustín Casillas, two meters high and almost one meter wide, to him. This bronze sculpture depicts the Salamancan poet walking in memory of his usual route along San Justo street towards Plaza del Corrillo, where he would stay for hours accompanied by his poems.
