ANAYA TOWER EXHIBITION HALL

30 minutes
The Anaya Tower is an old 15th-century palace and a prominent example of the fortified tower houses, authentic urban strongholds that reflected the power of the Salamancan nobility at the end of the Middle Ages.

The current building clearly shows two distinct construction phases. On one hand, it preserves original elements —such as the tower, the patio, and several rooms with interesting wooden ceilings— which provide an idea of what these noble residences were like. On the other hand, it incorporates a new extension, built at the end of the 20th century and oriented towards San Pablo Street.

Currently, the Anaya Tower is used for exhibitions and cultural events, consolidating itself as an active space for the dissemination of art and culture.
At the corner of Jesús and San Pablo streets stand the Anaya Tower and the Orellana Palace Tower. The coats of arms they both display reveal their common origin: they belonged to the same branch of the powerful Anaya lineage. This ancient 15th-century palace is a good example of medieval strong houses, authentic urban fortresses that symbolized the power and struggles among the Salamancan nobility at the end of the Middle Ages.

The building preserves original elements —such as part of the tower, the courtyard, and various rooms with interesting wooden ceilings— which allow one to glimpse what the noble residences of the era were like.

For years, the Anaya Tower has established itself as an exhibition hall, hosting highly interesting displays, many of them dedicated to local artists such as Severiano Grande, Agustín Casillas, or Zacarías González.

Located in the heart of the historic center, just a few steps from the Plaza Mayor, the Cathedrals, and the San Esteban Convent, it constitutes a strategic point from which to easily explore other places of interest in the city.
