Lunes de Aguas

10 April 2026 - 13 September 2026

Although its historical origin dates back to the 16th century, currently, Lunes de Aguas has evolved into a popular and family-friendly celebration. The main tradition is to go picnicking in the countryside, on the banks of the Tormes River, at the Roman Bridge, or in parks like Aldehuela or other green areas of the city.

The undisputed star of the celebration is the hornazo. It is a traditional Salamanca pastry filled with meat products such as pork loin, chorizo, ham, and sometimes hard-boiled egg. Its consumption represents the end of the prohibition of eating meat during Lent and an experience that represents the best of charra gastronomy.

It is a holiday when the city empties in the afternoon, filling up with people looking for a spot to enjoy a countryside picnic with friends and family.
