You are here: Inicio Special activities Shopping

When you shop in Salamanca, it’s like taking a part of the city with you. You can find everything you need in the more than 4,000 establishments located around this regional capital located on the banks of the Tormes: clothes, shoes, accessories, jewellery, souvenirs, food and drink, local handcrafts.

The shopping district is located along the main avenues heading north from the Plaza Mayor. In and around Calles Toro and Zamora you can find franchises, brand name stores, boutiques, all within easy reach allowing you to go shopping as you take a leisurely stroll along the pedestrian streets lined with the emblematic golden sandstone buildings. It makes for a pleasant walk and along the way you will come across street musicians, and if you are here at the right time, one of the book fairs in the Plaza Mayor, or stands selling handcrafted and earthenware products in the Plaza de los Bandos.

And don’t miss your opportunity to visit the Zara store, located in Plaza del Liceo, a wonderful venue to enjoy both shopping and art. A unique backdrop, a contemporary steel and glass structure erected amidst the remains of a former Baroque convent dating back to the 18th century, with a 22-metre high dome.

In the area located between the Plaza and the Cathedrals, heading towards the river, you will find the souvenir stores and the traditional Salamanca art and craft shops selling everything from jewellery to saddler products. There are also delicatessens where you can purchase cured meats as well as PDO Guijuelo cured ham. These and other regional products can also be found in the Central Market, housed in a beautiful modernist building, a hive of activity throughout the morning.

Then there are the shopping centres: The Tormes y Capuchinos shopping centre in Santa Marta de Tormes or the Vialia in Paseo de la Estación where, in addition to the great shopping, you can relax in one of its many cafés or restaurants or even catch a film.
