Discover one of 18th-century Salamanca's most peculiar and unknown monuments. Part of the ancillary structures of the Convento del Carmen Calzado de San Andrés, known as the 'Salamancan Escorial' for its large dimensions and austere architectural style, is the Pozo de Nieve. This astonishing construction was where our ancestors stored and preserved snow, brought by mules from the Sierras de Francia and Béjar, to turn it into ice, which they then used to make ice cream or sorbets, as a preservative, or for therapeutic purposes.

Ovalle Prieto and is located near the Church of San Juan de Barbalos. Its construction dates back to the late 15th century. Saint Teresa lived in the city, precisely in this dwelling, for a period of almost four years.
HistoryAfter Saint Teresa's journey through various places in Castile establishing Convents, she entered the city for the first time on October 31, 1570, where she provisionally settled with the aim of beginning what would be her seventh foundation. This is the Convent of San José de Carmelitas Descalzas (Discalced Carmelites) located in the historic center of the city. During her stay in 1573, obeying her director, the Jesuit Ripalda, she wrote the book of her foundations.
In this house-convent, she wrote "I live without living in myself." CharacteristicsThe building's facade is simple, constructed of freestone. It has a semicircular arch doorway built with large voussoirs, and above this doorway is a window flanked by two original coats of arms. Inside, a courtyard opens up.
