La Cuaresmera 2024

The 2024 image has been created with pen and watercolor by the illustrator Juan Cáneba.

The calendar was hung in shops and homes to count the passing of the seven weeks of Lent, a period of fasting and abstinence from meat that precedes Holy Week.

The figure of the old woman with seven legs and the foods characteristic of the religious vigil period, vegetables and fish, used to be produced in cardboard or wood.

In the windows of grocery stores, it was displayed to advertise the sale of salted cod.
