SCALA COELI VIEWPOINT

30 minutes

The Scala Coeli Viewpoint is part of the Salamanca Viewpoints Route, a route that allows visitors to discover the city from multiple angles, revealing its beauty and historical richness. One of the most prominent viewpoints is Scala Coeli, located in the Clerecía Towers.

The ascent to the viewpoint is made through the interior of the north tower via the original wooden staircase, which zigzags up along the tower walls. The Scala Coeli viewpoint offers an experience that captivates from the very first moment. Upon reaching the top of the tower, visitors find themselves surrounded by the grandeur of the Baroque, where every architectural detail surprises and overwhelms. From above, the Clerecía complex is revealed in its full magnitude: the imposing Study Cloister lies at our feet, its grand dome dominates the city's sky, while the towers, with their exquisite decoration, speak of the effort and ambition of those who built them.

But the magic of Scala Coeli does not end with the building itself. From its balconies, Salamanca unfolds in all directions like an authentic map full of history and art. Churches, convents, palaces, and squares emerge amidst streets and gardens, composing a unique landscape that combines monumentality and harmony. It is a place where the gaze travels unhurriedly, discovering corners, legends, and centuries of history with every turn.

Visiting Scala Coeli is not just contemplating the city from above: it is understanding it, admiring it, and feeling it from a privileged perspective.

The Scala Coeli Viewpoint is located at the top of the towers of the Clerecía Church and is part of the Salamanca Viewpoints Route. Situated on the Teso de las Catedrales, the Clerecía dominates the heart of the city with its imposing presence. From its towers, an exceptional panoramic view unfolds, encompassing both the historic intricate layout and the more modern areas of the city. To the south, the gaze transcends the urban profile and reaches the Central System, where the Béjar and Francia mountain ranges draw the horizon with their peaks.

The visit begins in the cloister of the Pontifical University. From there, the old staircase of the north tower leads to the tribunes, where an exhibition of panels and models allows visitors to learn about the history of the building. The tour continues along the Bell Ringer's Staircase, an 18th-century wooden structure that ascends to the towers and the old bell tower, a space once exclusively reserved for bell ringers. From this point, visitors enjoy a privileged perspective of the urban landscape, with the New Cathedral and other prominent monuments unfolding before their eyes.

Each of the viewpoints has supports designed for taking self-portraits. Through a QR code, visitors can easily capture and share their images on social media, thus becoming ambassadors of Salamanca. Additionally, the Viewpoints Route website offers a sound experience with compositions by the Salamanca singer-songwriter Gabriel Calvo, which accompany the visit and evoke the essence of the city.
