Salamanca, a UNESCO World Heritage City, has an important cultural legacy with a plethora of hidden corners to discover. In the spring and autumn, the city plays host to an anxiously awaited event: Paseos por Salamanca (Stroll around Salamanca) A free guided tour programme, taking visitors around the city stopping off along the way at churches, convents – venues of feminine spirituality -, the backdrop for the Peninsular War (1808-1814) or the towers and the medallions.

We were in Salamanca a few weeks ago and we were struck by the inscriptions on the walls of some of the buildings. We were told that these are known as vítores and that in the past, they were drawn using bulls blood. In this photo, we can be seen listening to the explanation given by the tour guide.see more
