A museum with a great deal of charm in a modernist stained-glass building. Inside is an incredible Art Nouveau and Art Deco collection.
The Art Nouveau & Art Deco Museum of Salamanca exhibits its decorative arts collections that date from the Art Nouveau period at the end of the 19th century through to the First World War and the Art Deco period between the two Great Wars. It also has a collection of porcelain dolls, one of the largest collections of its kind in the world.
Visitors can marvel at furniture, jewels, fans, textiles, bronzes, porcelain pieces and glazes as well as other collections, giving them a wonderful insight into the artistic preferences of the bourgeois society of the period.
There are two collections of particular note due to the quality of the pieces and their size: the chryselephantine statuettes and the glasswork. The chryselephantines are small bronze and marble sculptures set upon a marble and onyx base.
After the tour of the museum, there are two more essential stops: La Tienda de Lis, to purchase souvenirs and gifts, and the Café de Lis, to have an aperitif or why not have dinner at the museum too.
